We have special brand new Christmas activity books
We have a class advent calendar and the person whose name gets pulled out gets to pick their prize.
We have been on a Winter walk, this week we saw lots of ice and frost, we were freezing!!!!!! It was like being at the North Pole/Lapland/Finland/Alaska/Russia
We have been learning how other countries celebrate Christmas using the interactive whiteboard calendar
We had crackers which we pulled with our Christmas dinner yesterday. The dessert was a choice between Christmas pud or chocolate covered vanilla and strawberry flavoured tree shaped ice-cream.

Ompa-Lompa day

On Friday we were Oompa-Loompas.
It was completely different because we are doing different activitys.
First it was rugby. (as usual)
Next it was ICT  where we found out about the history of chocolate and how it is made - not like Willy Wonka makes his.
After we had a quiz.
Then we had a chocolate tasting test. We did a blind taste of different chocolates. Our class liked white chocolate the best.
After lunch we took part in a treasure hunt where we had to solve 8 clues to work out the mystery word. Lastly we investigated melting chocolate. We found out that the larger the block of chocolate the slower it melted, and that dairy free chocolate took the longest time to melt.

Road Safety Talk

On Thursday Mike Banham came in to talk to us about road safety.
He had little mini figures and he put them in a van without a seatbelt. One figure crashed through the windscreen, another fell off the back seat, the last person flew through the car and hit the person in the front.
After we put them in with a seatbelt on. no one got seriously hurt,
then he explained how dangerous it is when a car crashes.

Photos of the car safety demonstration after learning about the catapult effect,  and signs around the village to help to keep us safe whist out on the roads, especially the A1066 crossing.

visit to Thelnetham windmill and blo norton fen

On Thursday the 8th we went to Thelnetham windmill and the fen.
At the windmill the man to told us about wheat and how to grow it and we ate some bread.
Afterwards we went up the mill and saw how the wheat got ground.
the floors were:-
main floor,
grinding fioor,
bin floor,
chain floor,
sail control floor.

Outside there was a broken bit of wood. it was quite long and rotten it was an ancient sail for the wind mill.
We then went in a shead with an old-fashioned engine.
When the mill stopped working (not enough wind) they would get the engine on and it would get the sails going.
After we went over to the fen.
Mr Langston told us about the fen the dry grazing area and the area of wetland created by the LOHP. We went to investigate, some of us unfortunately found that we had holes in our wellies!

The jorney of wheat

On Monday and Tuesday we learnt About the jorney of wheat.

First the farmer drills the wheat.
Next they leave it to start growing
Then the farmer waters it and kills the weads.
After he kills the weeds he waits until the wheat goes yellow - gold.
At harvest time the farmer cuts the wheat down with a combine-harvester.
The farmer packs the wheat into bags and sends it of to the mill to grind and seperate it.
Afterwards they send it to bakers who make it into bread and deliver it to shops so we can eat it.If you press the link below and you will go to the website that tells you how they make bread, whats in wheat and how to make bread

sugar beet experiment

On Tuesday the 9th of October at a go at boiling sugar beet.

First we took off the leaves and felt the leaves and described them.
Next we snapped the bottom and looked at the tubes.
Then we washed and cut it.
After we put it into a pan with a little bit of water and we boiled it.

Afterwards we had a go at cutting it. Riley found it easy.
Then we wanted to have another go at boiling it. So we did.
It looks very mushy and it wasn't very clean.
We aslo had a go at filtering it and it absobred it and left the mud !
We are now leaving the water to evaporate and hopefully it will leave some sugar !
We put diffrent typs of sugar like demerara and icing sugar in pots that had some of the left overs from the boling sugar.
